AN 1800-strong crowd at the We Wrestle event here at the weekend was the biggest that organisers have had and the noise was “deafening”.

“The crowd completely over-rode the sound system,” said one of the organisers Scott Cowan.

Held at the Event Centre on Saturday night, it involved 21 wrestlers from around the Gisborne region entertaining the audience and there were more Dads and their kids there than any other year.

“It was absolutely fantastic. The pyrotechnic display during the night was a smash hit with the crowd. The performance by the wrestlers created a “really great atmosphere”, said one of the people who attended.

“The best part about it was how much the children got into it,” she said.

We Wrestle began in 2007 with a vision to support and strengthen youth through the challenges they face in life.

The event has grown each year and now draws crowds more than eight times bigger than when it first started. The event is organised by the House of Breakthrough.
